Kiwi company Serato has revolutionised the world of DJing.

Their creation meant DJs could spin MP3s in the same way they would spin a vinyl, giving them more freedom than ever before.

Tomorrow night, the company celebrates its tenth anniversary, and some of the world’s top DJs are coming to the party.

You have got to be a fairly famous DJ to appear on a hit HBO show like Entourage and DJ AM is that famous. He has got his own club in Los Angeles, he has dated Mandy Moore and Nicole Richie and various models.

And, what is more, he says new Zealand DJ'ing software Scratch Live changed his life.

“Serato's Scratch Live gave me the third hand I always needed,” says DJ AM.

Five years go New Zealand company Serato created the software, which allows DJ's to mix and scratch files from their computer using regular old turntables.

“The first year it was all word of mouth and people had to be in the know then is just went wild and knocked all the competition out,”

No longer did DJs have to seek out hundreds of 12 inch vinyls to get their parties started, as they could do the same thing, and more, with MP3s.

The New Zealand made system became so popular; it even brought a three time Grammy award winning DJ Mark Ronson out of retirement.

“It is surreal. When we got together to start this company it was not going to be anything with DJing now it turns out its our main focus,” says AJ Bertenshaw, co founder Serato.

And now their software is the main focus of DJ's around the world, from our very own P-money, to the Entourage-loving DJ AM.
